February is here, winter has been long, and spring still slumbers in her cozy cave. When frosty frills cling to windows, sore throats, coughs, colds, and swollen tonsils come knocking quite often, and even the invincible immune system of a yogi needs some help from nature's goodness. Here is my secret Fig Syrup remedy for just about everything: coughs, colds, dry throats, sore throats, swollen tonsils, and bronchitis, you name it, I turn to this and it works miracles for the whole respiratory tract. You'll need:
1 large Tbsp of unfiltered honey
20-25 dried figs
1 tbsp cloves
3 branches of fresh rosemary (or 1 tsp dried)
3 tufts of fresh sage (or 1 tsp dried)
3 stars of anise
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 cup of water
Cut the figs in half and place them in a small, iron pot. Add the cloves, rosemary, sage, anise, lemon juice, and water (the water should cover the figs abundantly. Boil the mixture on very low flame for about an hour, crushing the figs from time to time and stirring to make sure it doesn't burn. If your water should all evaporate, add a little more. After an hour you should have a thick, sticky syrup. Force the mixture through a fine sieve, crushing the figs as you go till you are left with a smooth syrup. Add the honey and place in a jar. Take a tablespoon of the syrup every hour during the day and two before going to bed at night.
In just a few days, it clears you right up.
